The Press Gazette recently carried an interesing letter concerning Gagging and my post on the Stand Up for Journalism Discussion Board. It is from photographer Andrew Wiard and reads
"Sir,
The NUJ has denounced "The gagging of the BBC World Service" by the Russians. According to NUJ Deputy General Secretary John Fray, "a shameful assault on freedom of the press and the Russian public's right to know".
So what does he have to say about the silencing of discussion on the the NUJ's very own Stand Up For Journalism website
It has - or had - a Discussion Board, the first post on which denounced the Drogheda Independent agreement and the NUJ's betrayal of photojournalism. There never was a second. The whole website still works - except, that is, for the Discussion Board.
Go on, try it!
The explanation? "Technical problems", comrade.....
Well we wouldn't take that from the Russians. Why on earth do they expect us to take it from them?
Andrew Wiard "
The petition is still functioning so go ahead and sign it - include a comment about the Drogheda Agreement and standards.
