It appears to be a full time job nowadays, deleting dozens of spam letters from a bunch of clowns who want our bank details, forwarding on the daily supply of funnies like the donkey's balls, kidnappers with shaved fanny’s, breasts hanging like god knows what out of holes in a hammock, arse’s painted like pumpkins, willies from around the world, video clips of castrated men on Hungarian television chat shows and of course answering the much sought after email enquiries.
When do we find time to take photographs and who’s paying us for our time on the Internet?
Are we really getting more work than we did in the old days when a customer might phone two photographers before making a decision?
Now they send emails to every Tom, Dick & Mary up and down the country just to compare notes, un-phased by the fact that 99% of those sending replies are wasting their time.
And to top it off, some of those offering website listings devote time to sending fake enquiries (esp. when it’s near renewal time) just to make their sales pitch easier, (also common practice with magazine advertisers), “I saw your ad in XYZ, and how much do you charge”?
Technology spared me somewhat but the new generation of photographers will have to spend two hours a day on line for the next 30 years!
So are we shooting ourselves in the foot, paying for all these listings, which just add to our time on line? Or is it a case of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't."
