Irish photographers shine at MPA Awards.

The combined photography award winners from the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) have been unveiled during a glittering awards ceremony in Newcastle.
Lisa Visser was awarded the coveted title of British Professional Photographer of the Year 2008, while Mark Nixon, scooped the title of Overseas Professional Photographer of the Year 2008.

A packed audience of professional photographers and trade representatives attended the prestigious event held on 19th October at the Gatsehead Hilton on the banks of the River Tyne. Dozens of the world’s top photographers were presented with major accolades.

Qualified MPA and BIPP members from around the world submitted images for the annual competition and only the very best were short-listed. This year’s judging panel was chaired by Simon John FBIPP FMPA and made up of eminent Fellows from MPA and BIPP who hold disciplines relevant to each category. Simon paid tribute to the successful photographers: “There was a great diversity of imagery, and all were judged on the same criteria - artistic merit, good use of lighting, composition and print quality - all the winners were of a very high overall standard. Winning a BPP Award is a huge honour for any photographer and I hope each winner uses their award to help further their careers.”

IPPA New President and Council

The IPPA Conference took place in Kilkenny last weekend. Unfortunately I couldn't attend due to family commitments but I am sure all the delegates had an enjoyable and interesting weekend. I am grateful to Ger McCarthy who forwarded me this image from the weekend.
